Xbox One Asia launch: Everything you need to know

Microsoft's new console made its debut last year in November in the US and Europe, but the Xbox One has taken its time travelling to Asia. Given the long lead time, many enthusiastic gamers have already plumped for Sony's rival PlayStation 4, which launched in the region in December.

The long wait for the Xbox One is almost over though -- Microsoft will be launching the console in Hong Kong, India, Taiwan and Singapore on September 23, while for Korea and China, dates have yet to be confirmed. Japan is set for a slightly earlier launch this week, on September 4.

Price-wise, the Xbox One comes in two versions -- with and without Kinect. Interestingly, in Singapore, the Kinect-free Xbox One is priced the same as the PlayStation 4, though the launch bundle does come with a free game: EA Sports FIFA 15.

Based on the dollar prices after conversion, the cheapest place to get your Xbox One will be in Japan. Since the Xbox One is region-free, it may be a good deal if you're there on holiday. The Microsoft console is pretty expensive for those living in India, but this is likely due to taxes.

Launch titles for Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan are similar: Battlefield 4, Crimson Dragon, Dance Central Spotlight, Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition, EA Sports UFC, FIFA 15, Forza Motorsport 5, Halo: Spartan Assault, Call of Duty: Ghosts, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Killer Instinct, Kinect Sports Rivals, LocoCycle, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Need for Speed Rivals, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, Powerstar Golf, Ryse: Son of Rome, Titanfall, Watch Dogs and Zoo Tycoon.

In Korea, launch titles include all of the above games as well as Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. We're checking with Microsoft on which games are available for India and Japan and will update when we hear back.

Here's everything Microsoft just announced at Gamescom

Earlier today at the annual Gamescom trade fair in Cologne, Germany, Microsoft held a briefing that included some high-profile gaming announcements and news. Here are all the major bullet points from the press conference.

Rise of the Tomb Raider, the follow-up to Crystal Dynamics' stellar 2013 game, will launch as an Xbox One exclusive in late 2015 -- though there does seem be language that leaves the door open for a release on other platforms down the road. As of now it's only an Xbox One game.Xbox One will be getting new features including DLNA, USB playback, boot-to-TV, an updated friends section among others according to Xbox Wire.Two new Xbox One bundles will hit later this year. An all-white console packed with Sunset Overdrive will go for $400 (without Kinect) on October 28, and a Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare-skinned Xbox One with a 1TB hard drive and the game for $500 on November 3 (also without Kinect).Microsoft debuted an impressive gameplay demo of Remedy Entertainment's Quantum Break which is set to hit exclusively on Xbox One in 2015.The Halo 5: Guardians beta will begin on December 29.Moon Studios' charmingly dark platformer Ori and the Blind Forest will launch on Xbox One and PC this holiday season.The Fable Legends multiplayer beta will start on October 16."Evolve," the recently delayed shooter from the team that brought us the Left for Dead series will offer an Xbox One beta in January 2015.Xbox One digital pre-order and pre-loading begins with Forza Horizon 2 and FIFA 15.

Here's everything Sony just announced at Gamescom

At the company's Gamescom briefing earlier today, Sony made some game announcements and debuted some new information regarding the PlayStation 4's system software. Here's a list of the most noteworthy details.

Sony has sold more than 10 million PlayStation 4s.Gameplay of the PS4 exclusive RPG "Bloodborne" was shown in a new trailer.This fall, the PS4 system update 2.0 will bring Share Play (game-sharing online with friends who don't need to own the game) as well as YouTube and other features.PlayStation TV will launch in North America on October 14.Ninja Theory, creators of "Heavenly Sword," "DmC: Devil May Cry," and "Enslaved: Odyssey to the West" announced a new first-to-PS4 game called "Hellblade."The PC survival-horror megahit "DayZ" is coming to PS4."Rayman" and "Beyond Good & Evil" creator Michel Ancel announced a new ambitious open-world game called "Wild" that is a PS4 exclusive.The PS4 version of "Far Cry 4" will let players hand out "10 keys to Kyrat" that will allow other PS4 owners to try the game out for two hours in co-op mode.Media Molecule will bring a PS4 version of its Vita game "Tearaway" called "Tearaway Unfolded" next year.The horror game "Until Dawn" that seemed lost in development will now arrive on PS4 in 2015.Speaking of horror games, the mysterious "P.T." demo that Sony pitched as an "interactive teaser" is actually a surprise announcement of the next "Silent Hill" game that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are both involved with.
