In the museums of the future, they will display everything that made us what we are.

It is incontestable, therefore, that a video posted to YouTube by RumbleViral will take pride of place.

For here we have what appears to be a girl of teen years performing for the camera. Well, the camera for which she's performing is on her cell phone.

However, the camera that captures the true glory of it belongs to her dad, said to be named Rod Beckham.

His daughter gurns, sticks her tongue out, stretches her eyes and generally tries to make the most striking impression she can.

It's hard to find the right expression, especially when you know that your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr accounts need to be filled with new material or your friends will turn elsewhere for entertainment.

Of course, this could be one fine setup. The girl could be a burgeoning actor and the dad a film director trying to make the video look as amateurish as possible.

However, it shows just how we all feel the additional need to be interesting because we are now less humans and more content creators.

Sadly, Facebook and the like are our agents and they take 100 percent of our income.

Spheree lets you watch animated images in full 3D

It's official: we're well on the way to a true 3D display. This one, called Spheree, is the work of a team of researchers working together from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and the University of British Columbia, Canada, and it's mesmerising to behold.

Like its name suggests, it's in the shape of a translucent sphere; inside, the viewer can see animations and images that appear to float in the centre; as the viewer moves around, they can see other sides of the object as their perspective changes.

And it's all based on optical illusion. Packed inside the Spheree are multiple mini-projectors, which shine the images onto the interior surface of the sphere. Special software designed by the team blends the projector images together for a single, seamless image.

Because it is projected onto the surface of the globe, the next problem is the viewer's position in relation to Spheree. If the user is on one side and walks to the other, the view would usually distort or be obscured. For this reason, the device integrates motion-tracking software for user-targeted views: as the user moves around the sphere, the projected image follows, automatically correcting for perspective, appearing to stay in one place while the viewer moves around.

To do this, it uses infrared cameras that track a headband worn by the user.

"One of the emerging technologies that makes Spheree unique is that we use multiple mini-projectors, calibrated and blended automatically to create a uniform pixel space on the surface of the sphere," the team wrote.

"The calibration algorithm we developed allows for as many projectors as needed for virtually any size of sphere, providing a linear scalability cost for higher-resolution spherical displays. Spheree does not have any seams or blind spots, therefore rendered scenes are not occluded and the display can support stereo 3D experiences."

Although small projectors are usually low-resolution, the team circumvented this using a scalable multi-projector system called FastFusion, which automatically calibrates aligned projectors to blend separate projections.

But it's not just for passive viewing: using a leap motion gesture controller, the Spheree is able to integrate motion control, allowing users to interact with the models and images therein with their hands. Much like a sculptor can push, pull, turn, and sculpt a piece of clay, 3D modellers can directly create 3D models with their hands using software such as Blender via a connected computer.

The team demonstrated two versions of the Spheree at SIGGRAPH 2014 in Vancouver, Canada, earlier this month: a smaller 18cm display and a larger 51cm display.

LG apparently readying LG G Watch with round screen

LG's G Watch has only been out for two months, but it appears the smartwatch will soon be getting a face lift.

The South Korean electronics giant is expected to unveil a smartwatch refresh called LG G Watch R that features a more elegant round screen next week, according to a new video hosted on LG's YouTube channel. The brief video, which was first spotted by Engadget, is light on details but features images of a classic circular watch face and indicates the new smartwatch will be unveiled in Berlin at IFA 2014, Europe's largest consumer electronics trade show.

In addition to taking its design cues from traditional wrist timepieces, the new LG smartwatch appears to be following the lead of Motorola, which was teased at Google's I/O developer conference in June. That handset, which is due to be officially launched at an event held in Chicago on September 4, also features a round face and is expected to cost $250 and feature a 1.5-inch backlit LCD touch screen.

Launched in June, the original G Watch marked Google's first foray into the smartwatch arena, a business that has seen a lot of entrants and interest, but few sales. Google is attempting to create a level of consistency with the next wave of smartwatches with its Android Wear operating system -- a version of Android customized for wearable products.

CNET has contacted LG for comment and will update this report when we learn more.

Watch a Faraday cage dress take a million volts of electricity

We get excited about Tesla coils, but they are pretty dangerous. Those long, stunning arcs of electrical power can cause you serious harm -- even death. Unless, that is, you are appropriately attired; and what could be more appropriate than haute couture?

Netherlands-based "fashiontech" designer Anouk Wipprecht -- whose creations include a dress with robotic, flexing spider legs around the neckline and another that functions as a smoke machine -- has created just such a garment.

The dress itself -- made for a collaboration with Tesla coil band ArcAttack for this year's MakerFaire -- is made of a combination of plate and chain mail, with 3D printed plasma ball mounts on the shoulders and a spiked helmet with a grille on the front.

"In order to protect the head from the aggression of 2x half-a-million volts of Tesla coil madness (as I stood in between approximately 1 million volts of electricity), we needed to protect my head, so we created a prototype helmet from full metal at the ArcAttack workshop in Austin, Texas," Wipprecht wrote on Instructables, where she detailed the process of designing and building the dress (with a disclaimer not to try it at home).

The finished dress acts as a Faraday cage -- a protective shield made of conductive material that distributes charge around its exterior, while cancelling the charge within -- keeping whatever is inside the cage from being electrocuted. This is why aeroplane passengers are safe from lightning -- the conductive aluminium hull acts as a large Faraday cage.

Wipprecht wore the suit herself, as she told Popular Science. No one else was game. "Normally I work with fashion models," she said. "But this time, nobody else wanted to wear it."

LG says new software should stop G Watch from corroding

It seems software updates can solve just about anything. LG has issued a patch for its G Watch to address mounting complaints that the charging connectors on the bottom of the device are rapidly corroding. Early adopters of the Android Wear-powered watch have reported that the terminals have corroded in as little as a week. At best, the corrosion simply discolors the connectors, but some say that the corrosion is so bad that their watches will no longer charge. Others say that the corrosion causes discomfort.

But how, exactly, will a software update solve a hardware problem? "LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock," a support...

Electronic dance music artist Deadmau5 created an internet stir with his meme-tastic Nyan Cat Ferrari at the Gumball 3000 earlier this summer, but after the race is done, what do you do with a souped-up cat-powered hyper-car? Why, take Toronto mayor Rob Ford on a coffee run, of course. It's hard to know what to expect when you get a rock star DJ and a disgraced mayor together, but the result is oddly sedate.
